DANIEL JACKSON CUMMIN(G)S
Daniel Jackson Cummins was born around March 1861 in Alabama.
He died 27 Jan 1940, in Des Arc, Prairie Co., Arkansas
and is resting next to his wife Alpharetta,
in the Sylvania Presbyterian Church Cemetery,
located on Highway 321, in Ward, AR.
Their graves are marked with headstones fashioned from wood
and cement by their Great Granddaughter, which are
located in Section B, Row 6.
Daniel is the son of Daniel H. Cummins and Martha Whitfield.
On 15 August 1878 Daniel married Alpharetta Estell Oliver [1858-1939],
daughter of Carey Wade Oliver and Eunice Elizabeth Fields,
in De Soto County, Mississippi.
They had the following known children:
John Benjamin Cummins [1881-1961]
who married Mary Jane Harkins and Callie Florence Manning
Isabelle Cummins [1883]
Bruce Maxwell Cummins [ 1888-1978]
who married Nancy Grace Owens
Elia Mae Cummins [1891-1964]
who married Rueben Williford and David F. Farris
Myrtle Cummins [1895]
Jake Cummins [1899-1961]
who married Bertie Fairless.
Daniel and Alpharetta came to Lonoke Co., Arkansas between 1891 and 1895,
in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. They bought a farm located across from the
Sylvania Presbyterian Church, on Highway 321, in Ward, AR.
Around early 1930's Daniel sold the farm and moved to
Des Arc, Prairie Co., Arkansas.
He bought a houseboat and lived on the White River.
The houseboat was tied up somewhere near the Courthouse.
Daniel is listed as Mr. Dan Cummings, no dates, next to his wife on the
Sylvania Cemetery burial records.
The original burial record book was stolen.
The only record of burials is
from information written on index cards.
