Frank William KINGSLEY


FRANK WILLIAM KINGSLEY

Frank was born July 28, 1904 in Elkhart, Logan County, Illinois and died
February 2, 1949 in Lincoln, Logan Co, Illinois due to an accident while
working on the Railroad.

He was the son of Joseph Anderson and Mittle Ellen ( nee DODD ) KINGSLEY;
and the grandson of William A. KINGSLEY, and Lucy Ellen ANDERSON;
and Joseph ANDERSON and Elizabeth DODDS.

His siblings were:

He married Pearl Marie SAMPSON on December 17, 1924 in Logan County, Illinois.


She was born December 29, 1907 in Fairfield,Wayne County, Illinois
and died 1 February 1996 in Stoughton, Dade County, Wisconsin.
She was the daughter of :
Charles Thomas and Bessie Rosalie ( nee OVERALL ) SAMPSON
and granddaughter of Victor N. SAMPSON and Josephine IDDINGS;
and Posey OVERALL and Isabell SIMMS.

To this union was born the following children:

  • Virginia
  • Edythe
  • Donald

    Frank was killed instantly on February 2, 1949, when he was crushed
    beneath a falling tree west of the Sellers crossing, approximately six
    miles east of Lincoln, along the Illinois Central railroad
    right-of-way. He was a member of an IC section crew, and was helping
    cut a large tree down when it began to teeter and fell on him. He had
    worked with Illinois Central for 6 years.

    He was a member of the Salvation Army in Lincoln for 22 years and next
    in command to the Officers-in-Charge. He assisted in all religious and
    other church programs carried on by the Salvation Army.

    After the death of Frank, Pearl resided with her mother, Bessie SAMPSON
    in Lincoln, Illinois. After the death of her mother in 1959 she resided
    with her son Don in Minnesota. She later lived in the Madison,
    Wisconsin area with her daughter Virginia [Ginny], until she went to
    meet Frank for eternity.

    Frank William Kingsley
    is buried in the
    New Union Cemetery
    in Lincoln,
    Logan County, Illinois.

    JOSEPH ANDERSON KINGSLEY


    JOSEPH ANDERSON KINGSLEY

    Joseph was born 21 October 1872 in Harrison County, Indiana
    and died 15 August 1937 in Harrison County, Indiana.
    He rests beside Mittie in Kings Cemetery, Laconia, Harrison Co., Indiana.
    He was the son of William Anthony KINGSLEY and Lucy Ellen ANDERSON; and
    grandson of Simeon KINGSLEY & Elizabeth BRANDENBURG;
          and Joseph ANDERSON & Elizabeth DODDS.

    His siblings were:
          Jessie A. KINGSLEY [MOSS] 1871-1893;
          Annie L. KINGSLEY [DODD] 1879-1942;
          Thomas KINGSLEY 1878;
          Nellie R. KINGSLEY 1887-1890.

    He married Mittie Ellen DODD on 3 November 1898 in Harrison County, Indiana.

          She was born 26 September 1881 in Harrison County, Indiana
          and died 16 December 1957 in Harrison County, Indiana.
          She was the daughter of Joseph DODD and Lucy M. LUNSFORD;
          and sister to Charlie W. Dodd and George J. Dodd.
          She rests next to Joseph in Kings Cemetery, Laconia, Indiana.

    To this union was born the following children:

          Married Albert ANDERSON.

  • 2) Charles E. KINGSLEY 1900-1983.
          Married Evelyn SUTTON.

  • 4) Frank William KINGSLEY 1904-1949.

    Joseph was said to be quite a fiddle player.
    He was a member of the "Tom Kingsley Band".
    Joseph and Mittie passed on their love of music to their children.
    The family played at many picnics and gatherings.
    The fiddle and banjo are still in the Kingsley Family.

          Living with him are:

    Living next door are Mittie's parents and brothers:
          Joseph DODD, Mar 1843, 51;
          Lucy [LUNSFORD] wife, Oct 1853, 46;
          Charles W., son, Feb 1878, 22;
          George J., son, Oct 1891, 48.

    1910 IL Census, Mt. Pulaski Twp, Logan County, IL:
          Joseph Kingsley, 36;
          Living with him are:
                Mittie, wife, 28;
                Nellie L., daughter, 10;

                Walter, son, 7;
                Frank, son, 5.

    1920 IL Census, West Lincoln Twp, Logan County, IL.
    Kingsley was spelled "Kingles" on this census.
          Joseph Kingsley, 47;
          Living with him are:

                Nellie L., daughter, 20;
                Charley, son, 18;
                Walter, son, 17; Frank, son, 15,
                Dolly, daughter, 9;
                Elsie, daughter, 7;

    Also on the 1920 IL Census, West Lincoln Twp, Logan Co., IL.
    the SAMPSON family lived in the same neighborhood.
    Walter and Frank KINGSLEY married Hazel and Pearl SAMPSON.

    The SAMPSON household is as follows:

    WILLIAM ANTHONY KINGSLEY

    William was born 13 Nov 1844 in Harrison County, Indiana
    and died 18 November 1905 in Harrison County, Indiana.
    He rests beside his wife and daughter in the
    Kings Cemetery, Laconia, Harrison County, Indiana.
    He was the son of Simeon KINGSLEY and Elizabeth BRANDENBURG.

    CIVIL WAR:
          He served with the 59th Regiment Indiana Infantry
                from 5 Dec 1861 until 17 Jul 1865.
          He was promoted to Corporal on 1 Jun 1865.

    He married Lucy Ellen ANDERSON on 21 May 1870 in Harrison County, Indiana.
          She was born 20 March 1848 in Harrison County, Indiana and
          died 18 January 1890 in Harrison County, Indiana.
          She was the daughter of Joseph ANDERSON and Elizabeth DODDS.
          Lucy died of Meningitis 2 days before her daughter, Nellie,
                died of the same affliction.
          They rest in the same grave, next to William A. Kingsley.

    To this union was born the following children:

  • 1) Jessie A. KINGSLEY 27 May 1871-27 Jun 1893.
          Married on 4 Mar 1891 to Louise MOSS 12 Dec 1869-27 May 1893.
          They both rest in Kings Cemetery, Laconia, Harrison Co., IN.

  • 2) Joseph A. KINGSLEY 21 Oct 1872-15 Aug 1937.
          Married on 3 Nov 1898 to Mittie Ellen DODD 26 Sep 1881-16 Dec 1957.

  • 3) Thomas KINGSLEY 1878 -? As shown on the 1880 IN Census.
          Died before 1905.

  • 4) Annie L. KINGSLEY Oct 1879-14 Aug 1942.
          Married : 1) Albert HUTCHINSON;
                        2) Charlie W. DODD Feb 1878-1952.
                      Charlie is the son of Joseph DODD & Lucy LUNSFORD.
                      He is the brother to Mittie [DODD] KINGSLEY and George J. DODD.
                      Annie and Charlie rest beside each other,
                      near Joseph and Mittie KINGSLEY,
                      in Kings Cemetery in Laconia, Harrison Co., Indiana.
          There were no children born to either marriage.

  • 5) Nellie R. KINGSLEY 11 Jan 1887-27 Jan 1890.
          Died of Spiral Meningitis,
                which is the inflammation of any or all of the
                meninges of the brain and spinal cord.
                      Usually caused by a bacterial infection.
          Nellie rests in the grave with her mother, Lucy,
                who died 2 days earlier, also of Meningitis.
          They both rest in Kings Cemetery, Laconia, Harrison Co., Indiana,
                next to William A. Kingsley.
