---
It seems as if William POSTON was one of the first settlers in Grand Prairie Township of Jefferson County, Illinois and was associated with or operated Poston's Mill. He passed away in 1844 inJefferson County, Illinois.
Notes 2 Rumor has it that John Franklin POSTON was married and located in Georgia in the mid 1800's. It has been said that he was unsympathetic with the 'South'; and because of this at the onset of the Civil War; left to join the war effort. Because of his age, was unable to enlist in the active military and volunteered his services to the Union Army as a teamster, possibly hauling freight between the areas of Little Rock, Arkansas and Memphis, Tennessee. At the end of the war, he returned to Georgia. Upon his arrival in Georgia, he was informed by neighbors that his wife had passed away. His efforts to locate his children proved unsuccessful. Sometime after this he returned to Illinois and in 1870 was in Madison County, Illinois.
